Naija hit play
So I recently saw the Progidy and pens' masterpiece movie, 'Somewhere in the dark', and I must say that for once I saw a Nollywood Yoruba movie where thorough attention was paid to details. I've always observed that the Prodigy & Pens company have tried to distinguish itself in the industry, but seeing this movie, my mind was totally blown.
Now I see why both the producer/director Abiodun Jimoh and the lead actress Jumoke Odetola bagged the AMVCA back to back. While I have one or two parts which I quite disagree with, I must say that to creatively merge and reconcile diverse complex thematic concerns of reincarnation, necromancy, magic & tricks, love & betrayal, restitution, medicine, death and afterlife, african religion, crime investigation etc, all in one movie is an absolute display of genius on the part of the Mr. Abiodun Jimoh as a film maker. His prowess as a director cannot be overemphasized with the professional delivery of roles by the actors, the plot development, well structured dialogue, and the proper reconciliation of all loops. I was totally impressed. At a point, I was scared that just like most Yoruba movie directors when they try to delve into stories with  highly cerebral themes, it might be hard to reach a sensible climax and conclusion at the end, but I was proud to identify with Nollywood Yoruba movies with this one. It just couldn't have ended better. I doff my for Mr. Jimoh and the Prodigy and Pens team for this one and I just can't hold back this credit. I'm actually happy to have this platform where I can reach out to him to express my appreciation to him for painstakingly producing a film like this and giving the Yoruba movie sector something to brag with.
Now putting aside my personal crush for Jumoke Odetola, as an actress, I must say sincerely that pulling off such a role as she did in this movie further validates that she truly deserved the AMVCA. She absolutely  killed it. I cannot but commend the director, Mr. Jimoh once again for bringing out that character from his actress. It takes both a naturally talented actress and a brilliant director to work in sync to bring out such a character. It was epic.
