SOS: "DEMOLITION OF DAAR COMMUNICATION'S OFFICE IN RIVERS UNCALLED FOR" - NOLLYWOOD ACTOR 

Port Harcourt born Nollywood actor, humanitarian & activist, Lady Mina Horsfall has warned that the exit of Daar Communications PLC from Rivers State would have an adverse effect on the state's economy. 

Mina made the call via a release from her Abuja office, while reacting to the 48 hours ultimatum given the media outfit by Rivers State government to exit the property or face demolition.

"I want to condemn in strong terms the threat to demolish Daar Communications property in Port Harcourt by the Rivers State government. The Rivers State House of Assembly had in late 2022 revoked the 868 plots of land occupied by Daar Communications Plc along NTA Road in Obio/Akpor Council of the state, following a report presented during plenary by the House Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions.

"Investigation reveals that this may have been caused by the rift existing between the executive governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Nyesome Wike and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Raymond Dokpesi, who owns Daar Communications Plc, operators of African Independent Television (AIT) and Ray Power FM" the release partly stated. 

Lady Horsfall, who is the National Coordinator of United Nigerians for PDP said there is a need for "the federal government, Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) and civil society groups to rise up and act, to protect the investment and preserve the jobs of DAAR Communication employees. As a group, one of our missions is to continually fan the embers of unity amongst Nigerians, especially those under the umbrella of the People's Democratic Party (PDP)."

She said: “from my research, Daar Communications employs about 48 Rivers people, if care is not taken and they leave Rivers State, 48 persons would have lost their jobs. DAAR Communication PLC provides printing, publishing, broadcasting, telecommunications and allied multimedia services across the world. The demolition may adversely affect the state’s economy, forcing the establishment which has about a hundred employees in its payroll to shut down would further deflect the state’s economy."

Speaking further, she said; 'I want to use this medium to congratulate the Rivers State governor-elect, Sir Sim Fubara, calling on him and other well meaning people of the state to intervene in the matter, so as to save the structure, which has served and employed Rivers people for two decades.
